Groups meet
at St Ninian's for all sorts of reasons: to deepen our faith, to
build relationships, to discover new talents, and simply to do the
things that need to be done! Dates of meeting are usually
advertised in the pew sheet. Simply come along or contact
us for more information.

Open
Discussion Forum
The Open Discussion Forum offers an opportunity to
get to know each other better and to think about our faith in light
of current events or particular areas of interest. We usually
invite a speaker to begin the conversation. This
group meets on the the third Tuesday of the month at 8pm, except in
summer. The group usually meets in the Rectory.

Bible
Study
Once a month we meet for Contextual Bible Study. Each session
stands alone and there is no 'homework'. The pattern is simply
to read a passage of scripture and learn by questioning the text and
listening to each other. This group
meets at the back of the church on the second Tuesday of the month at
8pm, except during the summer.

Mother's
Union
The Mother's Union is a world-wide fellowship of
women (and a few men!) throughout the Anglican Communion. The
regular meetings offer a time of fellowship and conversation for
members and friends. There is always some sort of charity
project on the go. This year members are preparing
'start-up packs' for women rebuilding their lives after leaving
abusive situations, and helping with a diocesan project to assist the
Mother's Union in our companion diocese of Byumba to set up a new
income generation craft project.
Most
of our MU members have
served the church faithfully for years, and the group continues to
care for many of our older members who value a time to be together and
a way to contribute to the wider church. Meetings are held on
alternate Wednesdays at 1.45 pm in the church hall, except in summer.

Choir
The choir lead the congregation in singing in each
week and sing and
anthem during communion. On special occasions, they also lead
choral evensong or Songs of Praise. Rehearsals are on Wednesday
evenings. Please speak to the director of music if you would
like to join.

Drama Group
The drama group is a joint venture between St Ninian's and the Renfrew
Aranthrue
Theatrical Society
(RATS). The group usually works on
two productions a year: a Christmas Pantomime (performed at St
Ninian's), a late Spring Play (at the Tramway Theatre),
25, 26 & 27 March "Yellow on the Broom" by Anne Downie at the Tramway Theatre, Albert Drive, Glasgow G41

Women's Book Group
The women's book group meets every 4 - 6 weeks to discuss a book of
common interest. Recent books include Einstein's Dream, Lady
Oracle (Margaret Atwood), Transforming Fire (Kathleen
Fischer), Letters and Papers from Prison (Dietrich Bonhoeffer).
In order to
allow space for relationships to develop, the book
group invites new members to join in the autumn so that membership
remains stable throughout the year.

Church
Helpers
There are many hidden groups that generally keep things running.
The Sacristans take care of the altar linen and the brass and
silver. The Servers help at the altar on Sundays --
carrying candles, swinging incense, setting up the church, and
generally keeping the clergy sane! There is a Readers Rota and
a group of people who help to lead Intercessions. Flower
arrangers work throughout the year and oversee the decoration of
the church at all major festivals. There is a Coffee Rota for
people who can help to pour coffee and chat with people on Sundays
after the service, and a group of Coffee Morning Helpers, who
run a coffee morning each month. A group of people
faithfully prepare and distribute the Magazine each
month. Others help with St Ninian's Kids and our Family
Days. several people provide a Fair Trade stall.
Each of these
activities provide a
chance to get to know people and to offer time
and talent to the common life of the church. Helpers are always
welcome!

Eco-Congregation Project
The aim of the Eco-Congregation project is to help St. Ninian's to
"Think globally, act locally", both as individuals and as a Christian congregation.
It will:
-
Promote awareness of environmental issues and explore the links with
Christian Theology
-
Encourage children and young people to care for the environment
-
Promote environmentally responsible stewardship of Church property
and resources
-
Encourage a personal lifestyle with minimal environmental impact
-
Work in, with and through the local community
-
Promote the vision of a global community based on fairness and
long-term sustainability
A group has been meeting under the leadership of Richard Whincop
to progress these aims and to carry out an audit of our life at St Ninian's.
